Who do we help?

The Service Committee raises funds to support individual cases of financial hardship amongst Serving Personnel and their families. We also support families by paying authorised, out-of-pocket expenses of the SSAFA Community Volunteers.

We assist funding projects that help in making the lives of people more pleasurable on both Episkopi and Troodos Stations.

WSBA Community Volunteers

The Episkopi and Community Volunteer has an Office or “Drop-in Centre” in the Epi Centre in Dodge area of Episkopi Camp.

The operating times are Monday-Friday, 10.00-12.00.  Drop in or phone +357 2596 3313 between those hours.

What our volunteers do:

  • Contacting clients and arrange to meet them at their home or in a suitable place depending on their needs.
  • Liaising with various personnel to let them know of any concerns for your or the client’s safety.
  • Arrange for a SSAFA caseworker to assess the client for other support as required.
  • Provide practical help like lifts to appointments, going to the shops, washing-up, running errands etc.
  • Help clients to think about ways to source other support if needed.
  • Keep in touch with your each other so we are all singing from the same hymn sheet and know availability of our volunteers.
  • Keep a brief record of your visits so we know the number of people we support and the help we have given.
  • Keep up to date with training, supervision and SSAFA news so that we are best able to support clients.
  • Volunteer within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction)
  • Support fundraising projects that help in making the lives of people more pleasurable.

Fundraising

We have two main annual fundraising opportunities:

The SSAFA 10K Challenge and The SSAFA Big Brew Up. These are usually held in March and October each year. The team attend the Episkopi Summer fete with SSAFA Community Health and SSAFA Cyprus Branch.

In the past we have attended the MTW (Military Training Wing) open days and our team have helped run each of the activities. This saved the MTW staff from calling serving personnel into work and allowed them the day off with their families.

Our Fundraising Team run other events during the year like a recent Spring decorated cake raffle and an upcoming Super Hero Challenge!
