SSAFA welcomes skipper on round Britain e-rib challenge
21 July 2024
Volunteers of the Plymouth branch of SSAFA were on hand to welcome the young skipper on a challenge to circumnavigate Great Britain in an electric rib.
Harry Besley stopped off in Plymouth to recharge, meet SSAFA volunteers and talk to Fred Thomas, MP for Plymouth Moor View, councillor Tom Briars-Delve – who leads the council’s environmental work – Cattewater Harbour Commissioners CEO Richard Allan, Lance Chatfield from City College Plymouth and others.
It was a great opportunity for SSAFA volunteers to share that the Armed Forces charity provides direct support for the UK military’s serving personnel, veterans and their families, who are in need of physical and emotional care.
Harry, 18, is attempting to circumnavigate Great Britain in an electric boat, ‘Electra’, stopping at more than 40 locations. It is a not for profit environmental project aiming to support leisure and small commercial operators in the marine industry in their transition to a more sustainable future. You can find out more about Harry’s challenge here.
