Veteran awarded British Empire Medal for 20 years service to SSAFA

07 January 2021

Lt Col Andy Middlemiss is the Branch Chairman at SSAFA Perth and Kinross, and has been a volunteer with SSAFA for 20 years!

In 2020, SSAFA Perth and Kinross carried out over 100 cases in the county helping the local Armed Forces community with a range of issues, including: debt, homelessness, employment, housing, alcohol and drug addiction, mobility, mental health and loneliness.

After receiving his award Andy said: “I am honoured, humbled, and very touched to be recognised by Her Majesty The Queen. I have served Queen and country since I was 18. Volunteering for SSAFA allows me to continue doing something close to my heart, and that is the care and support of my fellow members of HM Forces, Serving or retired and crucially their families.”

Sir Andrew Gregory, SSAFA Controller said: “SSAFA is extremely proud of the commitment of so many individuals to assist, whenever required, those serving in this Nation’s Armed Forces, veterans and their families. The recognition of some of the charity’s thousands of volunteers in The Queen’s New Year Honours is richly deserved; all in SSAFA congratulate them and thank them for their dedication and hard work.”
