SSAFA to again benefit from Chepstow Military Raceday this November
10 November 2022
A firm favourite on the calendar of the Sport of Kings is the Chepstow Raceday, which since 2014 has raised more than £190,000 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity with £20,000 raised last year alone.
Renamed the Chepstow Military Raceday for 2022, SSAFA remains one of the beneficiaries of this exciting programme of seven races, which takes place on Friday, November 18. After the day’s racing – the first is at 12.35pm and the last at 4pm – will be a series of other events, including a prize auction and raffle.
Top prizes include a unique painting of the racecourse by acclaimed racing artist Dave Dent of Dents Original Fine Art, a tour for four people around the stables of Jonjo O’Neil Racing, a Supacat Drive Day, two VIP tickets to the British Touring Car Championships 2023, and two tickets to one of SSAFA’s 2023 Battle Proms.
Julian Nettlefold of sponsor BATTLESPACE Publications said: “We are delighted to launch The Chepstow Military Raceday in November 2022, and must thank Chepstow Racecourse for its continued support for the Armed Forces community, and sponsors that include Watkins & Gunn Solicitors, Viasat, TVS Supply Chain Solutions, The Spectra Group, and Hall and Watts.
“Also big thank you to everyone who donated prizes for our charity auction so ably managed by Steve O’Leary, because every donation, every prize, every racegoer will make a huge difference to members of the Armed Forces community, including their families.”
This sentiment was echoed by SSAFA’s new Regional Fundraising Officer for Wales Annie Lawrie.
Although a recent addition to SSAFA’s ranks, she is well known for her work with Wales Air Ambulance, and said: “The Military Raceday at Chepstow is the first major project I’m working on for SSAFA, and what a super way to begin.
“It promises to be a racecard full of excitement and all for a great cause: supporting the Armed Forces family whether serving or retired, and their families.”
Annie added that she was especially pleased that Chepstow Racecourse is offering free tickets to this fixture for anyone connected with the military, which includes serving and retired personnel, as well as their families and friends (please see box to the right or below).
