SSAFA’s Vietnam Trek was fun for all – and a fundraising success
26 November 2024
The 2024 edition of SSAFA’s Vietnam Trek took place last month, from 21 to 30 October, raising nearly £100,000 for the Armed Forces charity.
31 participants took on the challenge, which totalled 110 kilometres through the dense Vietnamese jungle. Starting in Mai Chau Valley and finishing off in the Pu Luong Nature reserve, the group averaged more than six hours per day trekking along village paths, narrow trails, and steep inclines.
The group stayed in traditional stilt guest houses and were immersed in the local cultures as they traversed through the valley. Part of the trek took place on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, an extensive network of roads and paths from northern to southern Vietnam that were used during the Vietnam War.
Throughout the trek participants were treated to traditional Vietnamese food, swam in local fresh water pools and rivers, and took in the breathtaking scenery surrounding the trails.
Over £97,000 was raised by our participants, funds that will help SSAFA provide welfare and wellbeing support to those who need it, in communities across the UK and abroad – support that is always tailored to individual needs, helping people get their lives back on track.
