Grant awarded to SSAFA by RAF Benevelont Fund

SSAFA's casework service provides much-needed support to military veterans and their families. A network of 4,000 trained caseworker volunteers offers tailored support to help address practical, emotional and financial issues experienced by some individuals after leaving the armed forces.

The largest military case working service in the UK, our unique capability is utilized by the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, other benevolent funds, and charitable trusts to help veterans and their families. The RAFBF’s grant award will help fund the costs of training and supporting the volunteer caseworkers.

The funds will also support SSAFA's wider work in addressing the welfare needs of the RAF Family. These services include SSAFA's ground-breaking mentoring scheme which supports wounded, injured and sick service personnel make the transition to civilian life; short respite breaks for service children and families; Forcesline, SSAFA's free confidential helpline for the Forces community; and Norton Homes which provides 'home-from-home' accommodation at no cost for families of injured service personnel receiving treatment.

SSAFA is very grateful to the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund for this grant which will allow us to provide a lifeline to those who find the transition to civvy street a challenge, helping them reintegrate into the community and get their lives back on track. 

Furthermore, this money will also enable us to continue to be there for RAF personnel and their families, offering vital practical and emotional support when they need it.

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund is the RAF's leading welfare charity, providing financial, practical and emotional support to all members of the RAF family. Last year, the Fund spent over £18 million supporting 41,500 members of the RAF family in more than 30 countries.

The RAFBF are there for serving and former members of the RAF, as well as their partners and dependants. The Fund helps members of the RAF family deal with a wide range of issues: from childcare and relationship difficulties to injury and disability, and from financial hardship and debt to illness and bereavement.
