GCHQ releases intelligence stories from the Falklands War
16 November 2022
Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), the top secret security agency, has released a book detailing intelligence stories from the 1982 Falklands Conflict, published to mark the 40th anniversary of the war, with proceeds coming to SSAFA.
To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands War, GCHQ Historical Section have produced 'The Country's Call', a book with the story of GCHQ’s support to HM Government, the MoD and the Task Force during those amazing few weeks of the war.
GCHQ is one of the three UK Intelligence and Security Agencies, along with MI5 and the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). It is based in Cheltenham and run by Director, Sir Jeremy Ian Fleming KCMG CB. Sadly, Sir Jeremy is in no way related to James Bond writer, Ian Fleming… or so they say. But they don’t say much, being a spy agency themselves. Nor do they like being photographed, which is why only SSAFA representatives appeared at the cheque presentation in the grounds of GCHQ.
The £5,585 profits from sales have been donated to SSAFA Gloucestershire to continue the excellent service they provide to veterans and their families.
