Fire and Ice team prepares for its ultimate challenge in snowy Sweden

30 January 2025

The team of four recently returned from a long weekend of training in Swedish Lapland, getting a taste of the full challenge in March, all to raise funds for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

The Fire and Ice Challenge will start on 2 March, testing the limits of the team members – Jason Fox, Aldo Kane, Brian Wood MC, and Karl Hinett – like never before. They will cover 500 kilometres of frozen tundra and dense forests, entirely self-supported, over the course of 10 gruelling days.

The team’s recent training event was less about conditioning, and instead focused on training and acclimatising to the harsh conditions of the Swedish winter. They received nutrition lessons and practised making their meals on the go.

The team also familiarised themselves with their sleds and supplies, which they will drag during the challenge. They got into an efficient rhythm of setting up and breaking down their camp, moving from checkpoint to checkpoint.

Media requests have been coming in thick and fast, requiring the team to be ready for interviews in between their training. In an interview with Good Morning Britain, Brian spoke about the upcoming challenge: “Morale in the face of adversity will come out and no doubt help us along the way, but it’s going to be tough.”
