Atkins’ Aerospace and Defence volunteer day raises hundreds of pounds for SSAFA
19 October 2022
More than 50 staff of Atkins – a world-leading design, engineering, and project-management consultancy – took part in a strategic teambuilding and fundraising day for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. In total, around £900 has so far been raised.
Atkins is one of SSAFA’s Corporate Partners, and the day was organised by the company’s Partnering with the Armed Forces team. The day was supported by Atkins’ Market Director Aerospace & Defence AND SSAFA Worcestershire Chair David Clark, Cadet Force Adult Volunteer Dawn Anstey, and Atkins’ staff from the company’s aerospace, defence, security, and technology division.
Hosted at an Army Cadet Unit in Bristol, Dawn and her team of volunteers led a challenging, but fun day of archery, paintball, rockwall climbing, laser clay pigeon shooting, and command tasks for good-humoured competition between the teams.
Laura Hobbs – Atkins’ Armed Forces Programme Manager – said: “We had a typically amazing response from our colleagues, who used their Volunteering Day to raise funds for SSAFA while using and developing teamworking skills and meeting new people.
“It was also a great way for our people to learn more about the incredible work SSAFA does day in and day out, just as it has done for nearly 140 years for serving personnel, veterans, and their families.”
Sam Nowell, SSAFA’s Corporate Partnerships Manager, said: “I’ve got to give a big shout out to Dawn, Laura, and all the great people from Atkins who made this day such a success. Simply, SSAFA couldn’t do the work it does without our brilliant corporate partners and other donors. The value of their efforts is felt by Armed Forces people young and old, serving or retired, and their families across the country, so on their behalf, thank you Atkins.”
