A royal event: Royal Marines concert for SSAFA wows attendees
23 February 2024
Hundreds of Perthshire residents were treated to a recent concert at the beautiful Perth Concert Hall back on 1 February and taking centre stage was the Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Scotland, along with the talented Perth Choral Society. Throughout the two-hour performance, the audience was swept away by the finest musical traditions and talents that Scotland has to offer.
Branch Chairman Andy Middlemiss said of the concert: “This was a wonderful event. The talent on display was breathtaking – the individual solos, as well as the tonality and the variety of the pieces. We at The Perth & Kinross Branch of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity would like to express our very sincere gratitude for all of this. We are a great little team up here, and we really believe make a big difference in many veterans’ lives.”
The concert showcased everything from majestic marches to beautiful choral compositions. While the crowd were enthralled with the performance onstage, the concert was a great opportunity to raise money for the branch. Generous contributions of £1350 will allow SSAFA to continue to provide life-saving services to those in need throughout Perthshire.
Branch President Major General Adrian Freer added: “We are proud to do what we can for all serving or ex-serving personnel of the Armed Forces and their families in the Perth and Kinross area. It is our privilege to do this work, and one we take incredibly seriously. We are all most touched that the band and choir were able to recognise us in this way. This sort of humbling kindness just really cements the services’ bond.”
The evening was orchestrated by ex-Royal Marine Peter Rutterford, Director of the Perth Choral Society, and Captain Ann Miller, the Royal Marines’ first female Director of Music.
