A fitting first event for Her Majesty The Queen

22 March 2022

In February, SSAFA re-launched its Royal Albert Hall Concert and had the honour of the event being included as one of the first of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee programme of events.

The concert was presented by the BBC’s Sophie Raworth with beautiful music played by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, exquisite singing by Soprano Laura Wright and special guests including SSAFA’s Chief Executive, Lt General Sir Andrew Gregory and Winston Churchill’s Great Grandson, Jack Churchill, who discussed their own experiences of meeting the Queen.

It was attended by Prince Michael of Kent as well as SSAFA supporters, corporate partners and volunteers, raising a fantastic £4,456.49 in the bucket collection.

Sir Andrew Gregory, said: “We are proud to be presenting ‘The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – 70 years’ at the Royal Albert Hall to celebrate SSAFA’s Patron, Her Majesty The Queen’s reign.

“The Royal Albert Hall is at the heart of the nation; hosting concerts such as The Festival of Remembrance and ‘We’ll Meet Again’ for VE Day 75. It seems only fitting that on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee, SSAFA should present one of the first high-profile events in honour of that magnificent milestone.

“Over Her Majesty’s reign, our country has seen many challenges; and it is a testament to the British people, in face of conflicts, terrorist campaigns and more recently the pandemic, that we rally, and that we have and will continue to overcome adversity. God save The Queen.”
