Burlesque Troopers take on the Kiltwalk to raise funds for SSAFA in honour of triple amputee veteran

Nikkole Jamieson, daughter of triple amputee Gary Jamieson, is leading her burlesque dance troupe of 20 performers in this year’s Edinburgh Kiltwalk on 15th September, to raise funds for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. Their participation is a heartfelt gesture of gratitude for the unwavering support SSAFA has provided to Nikkole’s family since her father was severely injured in Afghanistan in 2010.
Gary’s life changed forever when he lost three limbs in a devastating explosion while serving in Afghanistan. The road to recovery has been long and challenging, but throughout the journey, SSAFA has been a constant source of support for the Jamieson family. From adapting their home to accommodate Gary’s needs to providing logistical and financial support during his numerous operations, SSAFA has been there every step of the way.
Nikkole, who is based in Scotland, has always been inspired by her father’s resilience and the support they’ve received from SSAFA. “SSAFA has been amazing. They have been with us every single step of the way—fixing our house to help my dad's needs and paying for our accommodation when he went for operations down in England. I can never fully repay them for everything they’ve done, but I will try,”
The Kiltwalk holds deep meaning for Nikkole and her dance troupe. Beyond raising funds, it is a tribute to her father and all who’ve served. Known for their vibrant performances, the troupe is eager to trade costumes for kilts and walk in honour of these sacrifices. “Inspired by my dad’s courage, we’re proud to give back,” Nikkole said.
The Burlesque Troopers have set up a JustGiving page to support their fundraising efforts. You can contribute and follow their progress, here.
