07 June 2024
SSAFA Inverness-shire & Western Isles Branch had the honour of taking part in the well-attended D-Day commemorative ceremony at the memorial on Nairn beach yesterday on June 6th, the 80th anniversary of the landings during the Second World War.
The Memorial commemorates the training undertaken by the 3rd British Infantry Division on Nairn and adjoining beaches prior to the Normandy landings.
Mark Strachan from the branch team, himself a veteran across numerous operational theatres, placed a wreath on behalf of the Branch.
Message from branch chair David Hurley: "It was heartening to see so many of our veterans and other members of the public in attendance".
