SSAFA Cyprus

We are the Cyprus branch of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a trusted source of support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need. Founded in 1885, we’re extremely proud of our long-standing heritage and of all the work we do with inspiring people from Cyprus, across the UK and around the world.

Cyprus Branch has a small number of dedicated Casework & Branch Volunteers across the island to assist veterans in their time of need. Assistance is provided to relieve suffering and distress amongst veterans and their families and we are committed to being there for them and their families whenever or wherever they need us.

We are not able to provide 24/7 response and cannot replace the help from organisations such as the British High Commission in an emergency.

• Our volunteers can help you navigate the military (and civilian) charity sector, by preparing an application for assistance to appropriate civilian & military benevolent funds.
• In order to apply for help they will guide you through quite a comprehensive assessment of need, income, expenditure and any debt, as well as your personal circumstances.

Meet the team

The team at SSAFA Cyprus is dedicated to helping veterans, service personnel, and their families, in the local community. Our commitment is to provide support with experienced, non-judgemental and friendly advice, as well as a variety of practical services that cover a range of emotional, practical and financial issues. We are proud to say that we help our Armed Forces family whenever they need us, for as long as they need us. Here at SSAFA Cyprus, we have a variety of different personalities that together make our team so special.

Blue Turnpenny

Branch Secretary

Blue Joined the Cyprus Branch in 2019 after serving 38 years in the Royal Air Force. His last tour was at RAF Akrotiri as WO Logs/SWO. He decided to retire in the sunshine and spends his time playing golf, leisurely lunching and playing more golf, as well as volunteering for SSAFA of course!

Robbie Robinson

Caseworker

Robbie served 22 years in the RAF and 22 years working for a world-leading orthopaedic company before joining SSAFA 2019. He also volunteers for Cyprus Residency Planning Group as well as being the President of Cyprus Samaritans and volunteering at Tala Cat Charity Shop. A busy man!

Volunteer with us

We love what we do. The sense of pride you get when you know you’ve helped someone get their independence and dignity back is extraordinary. Through volunteering for SSAFA Cyprus, you’ll have the chance to meet some truly inspiring people, with stories you’ll never forget. You’ll also gain new skills and experiences, but most importantly, you’ll make a difference in the lives of those who have dedicated their lives, often at great sacrifice, to protect and serve our country.

Cyprus Branch has 40 trained caseworkers across the island to assist veterans in their time of need.
