Live ChatDavid Rowe was educated at Clifton College and then at Exeter University from where he graduated with a degree in Economics. He spent five years in the Army (Royal Artillery) resigning his commission in 1986 in order to begin a career with J Henry Schroder Wagg plc, a British owned Merchant Bank, in their investment division, Schroder Investment Management.
He spent 16 years at Schroders where he initially worked as a fund manager before concentrating on the charity market. In 1999 he became the Managing Director of Schroders UK private client business.
After leaving Schroders in 2002 he spent 17 years at UBS where he had responsibility for many different businesses including philanthropy and charities. During his time at UBS he created the UBS UK Donor-Advised Foundation (DAF) which is now the second largest DAF in the UK.
Since 2003 he has been a Visiting Lecturer, and now a Visiting Fellow, on Investment Management at the Centre for Charity Effectiveness (City, London University) teaching investment management to the voluntary sector.
He is the Chair of the Challenger Trust and the Honorary Treasurer of SSAFA 'the Armed Forces Charity’ where he is Chair of the Risk and Finance Committees. He is a trustee of National Philanthropic Trust’s Transatlantic and UK charities, the Honorary Treasurers’ Forum and of the Army Sports Control Board.
