Volunteering in the Serving community

What do our volunteers do?

Our in-Service volunteers work on bases, stations and garrisons in the UK and around the world. Providing support to serving people and their families, they improve lives every single day of the year.

Our volunteer ethos is to give the serving community the opportunity to help others around them. And because volunteers are also part of the community, they have a unique understanding of local concerns.

Inservice Volunteer Awards

The Service Volunteer Awards are your opportunity to recognise the care and commitment that SSAFA volunteers offer to thousands of Service personnel and their families around the world. Make your nomination online.

Our in-Service volunteers perform different roles:

Service Committees identify needs within the local Service community and fundraise to support local projects. Contact us or find your local Service Committee (31.4kb PDF)

Community Volunteers are friendly faces to whom serving personnel and their families can turn in times of need. They offer low key practical help.

Victim Support
SSAFA has two victim support operations: one in North West Europe and one in Cyprus.  Skilled and trained SSAFA volunteers work within a Partnering Agreement with the UK national Victim Support.

Whatever your role, being a volunteer for SSAFA Forces Help is a uniquely rewarding experience with plenty of challenges and plenty of choice. We provide training appropriate to each role and cover all out of pocket expenses.

Right now, we need volunteers to help us with:

  • Community volunteer support
  • Fundraising
  • Publicity
  • Administration
  • IT
  • Victim Support

Contact us if you would like to become a volunteer.
